Makinde Encourages APM Candidate to Focus on Independent Leadership and People-Centered Governance in Oyo State
Governor Seyi Makinde has advised Abimbola Adekanmbi, the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), to focus on building his own political identity rather than continuing old rivalries or inherited political conflicts.
Speaking at the official unveiling of Adekanmbi as the party’s governorship candidate, Makinde stressed the importance of independent thinking and fresh leadership direction. He explained that every political leader is human and capable of mistakes, including himself, but what matters most is the ability to learn, improve, and continue working for the good of the people.
The governor encouraged Adekanmbi to avoid carrying forward personal or political enemies from the past, urging him instead to concentrate on his own vision and priorities for the development of Oyo State. According to him, leadership should be focused on progress, unity, and delivering real benefits to citizens rather than repeating old political battles.
Makinde further emphasized that any future leader should aim to improve on existing achievements in governance. He noted that development is a continuous process and called on political actors to build on what has already been done, rather than starting from division or conflict.
He concluded by encouraging all aspirants and political leaders in the state to prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests, stressing that the true measure of leadership is how well it improves the lives of citizens.
