Grassroots supporters across Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde are speaking out against alleged political imposition, demanding transparent primaries, fair representation, and the right of the people to freely choose their leaders in Edo State.
There is growing political tension within the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as many supporters, youths, stakeholders, and grassroots members continue to express concern over alleged attempts to impose candidates on the people instead of allowing a transparent democratic process.
Across Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency, many party faithfuls say they are no longer comfortable with what they describe as a lack of fairness and openness in the party’s internal process. According to several concerned members, democracy should give the people the power to choose their leaders freely through credible primary elections, not through arrangements made behind closed doors.
Supporters argue that the strength of any political party lies in the trust and confidence of the people. They believe that when candidates are allegedly forced on members without proper consultation or competitive primaries, it weakens unity within the party and creates frustration among loyal supporters who have worked tirelessly for the growth of the NDC in Edo State.
Many residents and party members are now calling on the national leadership and the National Working Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress to urgently intervene before the situation escalates further. They maintain that Edo State belongs to everyone and that every citizen has the constitutional right to participate in choosing leaders who truly represent the interests of the people.
