Former APC Youth Leader Sadiq Abubakar Defects to NDC, Set to Contest Gombe 2027 Governorship Election

Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Youth Leader Sadiq Abubakar has officially left the party and joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing economic hardship and concerns about internal party processes.

In his statement, Abubakar explained that his decision was influenced by the current economic situation in the country, as well as his desire to join a political platform that he believes conducts more transparent and fair primary elections.

He also announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State under the NDC platform. This move marks a significant shift in his political career, as he transitions from a youth leadership role within the APC to a governorship aspirant in a different party.

Political observers say his defection could reshape early political calculations in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 elections, especially as parties begin positioning themselves for competitive races.

The development adds to a growing pattern of political realignments as politicians across different levels reassess their affiliations ahead of the next general election cycle.
