The police in Delta State have begun an investigation following a tragic incident in Ogwashi-Uku, where a young man reportedly died after being pursued by officers.
According to reports shared by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, police officers and a civilian hunter allegedly chased a student in the area without properly assessing the environment.
During the chase, the young man is said to have unknowingly run into an uncovered well filled with water. In a tragic turn of events, the hunter who was also involved in the pursuit reportedly fell into the same well.
Both individuals were later recovered from the well and were confirmed dead.
The incident has sparked concern and public discussion, with calls for a thorough investigation into how the situation was handled and whether proper safety precautions were followed during the operation.
In response, the Police Complaint Unit confirmed that an official investigation has been launched to determine what happened and to establish whether any wrongdoing occurred.
Authorities have assured the public that findings from the investigation will be made available once the review is completed.
