Tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly increased as senior party members disagree over leadership positions and internal nominations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, former Minister Rotimi Amaechi allegedly expressed strong dissatisfaction during internal discussions with the party leadership, including ADC National Chairman David Mark.
Amaechi was reportedly unhappy with how certain party appointments and roles were being allocated, particularly positions said to be influenced by the camp of former presidential candidate Peter Obi. He allegedly claimed that some individuals close to Obi were given key roles within the party structure, including deputy positions and other strategic offices.
The party spokesman also stated that neither Amaechi nor former Vice President Atiku Abubakar were able to secure nominations for their preferred candidates into the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which further fueled internal disagreements.
One specific case mentioned involved former Minister Osita Chidoka, who reportedly sought the position of National Organising Secretary. However, the role was said to have been allocated to someone nominated through Obi’s influence, a decision that allegedly led to further dissatisfaction and political tension within the party.
The situation highlights ongoing struggles within opposition party structures as they attempt to balance power-sharing, loyalty, and representation among major political figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
