The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that the party is planning a protest over the worsening security situation in the country. In a statement released on Wednesday, the former Kano State governor described the message as false and urged members of the public to disregard it.
The clarification comes amid the circulation of online messages claiming that the NDC was mobilizing supporters for a protest over rising insecurity. According to the statement, neither the party nor its leadership has endorsed such action.
Senator Kwankwaso stated that the party remains committed to lawful and peaceful methods of addressing national concerns. He emphasized that the NDC does not support any activity capable of disrupting public order or resulting in the destruction of lives and property.
The statement stressed that responsible leadership requires constructive engagement rather than actions that could escalate tensions in society.
Reaffirming the party’s democratic credentials, Kwankwaso said the NDC believes that elections remain the most legitimate avenue for citizens to express dissatisfaction and pursue political change.
According to the statement, the party is focused on winning the upcoming elections through peaceful and democratic means. It expressed confidence in securing what it described as a resounding victory at the ballot box.
The NDC maintained that democratic institutions provide the appropriate platform for addressing grievances and determining the country’s political future.
The statement also cautioned Nigerians against falling for misinformation spread on social media. It described the protest message as a deliberate falsehood and urged citizens to verify information before sharing it.
Party supporters and members of the public were advised to ignore individuals and groups promoting the claim, which the NDC insists does not reflect its position.

With the party moving to dispel the rumours, the NDC says its focus remains firmly on pursuing electoral success through peaceful democratic participation rather than street protests.
